The fourth and last part of the file name is the Document Date.

This answers the question: WHEN?

Here, you type in a useful and relevant date using the official date standard based on the International Standards Organization (ISO).

Write dates "back to front", starting with the year.

YYYY-MM-DD

2027-04-25

Examples:

  • January 1st, 2018 is 2018-01-01
  • June 8th, 2020 is 2020-06-08
  • August 6th, 2020 is 2020-08-06

Use the date that makes the most sense. For example, use the date that an agreement is approved, not the date that the file is saved.

You can change the date in the file name to keep it relevant and useful as time passes.
